Abstract

This study was carried out at the farm experimental of the Rice Research and Training Center, Sakha Research Station, Kafr EL Sheikh Egypt, during the two successive rice seasons 2018 and 2019. The main objectives of this study was identify the effect of irrigation intervals on some growth characters, yield and its components, of some rice mutants. This study involved sixteen rice mutants i.e., Sakha 101Mn-1, Sakha 101Mn-2, Sakha 101Mn-3, Sakha 101Mn-4, Sakha 104Mn-1, Sakha 104Mn-2, Sakha 104Mn-3, Sakha 104Mn-4, Giza 177Mn-1, Giza 177Mn-2, Giza 177Mn-3, Giza 177Mn-4, Giza 178Mn-1, Giza 178Mn-2, Giza 178Mn-3 and Giza 178Mn-4. The horizontal plot was devoted to two irrigation treatments, i.e.; irrigation every 6 days and irrigation every 12 days, while, rice mutants were in vertical plot. All agricultural practices were made according to rice recommendation (RRTC. 2017). The data were recorded on morphological, yield and its component, days to heading (day), Plant height (cm), Panicle length (cm), number of tillers / hill, Flag leaf area, number of panicles / hill, sterility percentage (%), panicle weight (g), 1000-grains weight (g), grain yield / (t/fed) and harvest index (%). The most important results obtained could be summarized as follows: from the obtained results, its could be concluded that, the rice mutants Giza178 mn-4 and Sakha104mn-4 in the current study were found to be good candidate for drought tolerance at all stages of growth, where they have possessed some of desirable characters associated with drought tolerance i.e panicle weight (3.86), (3.77), grain yield (4.228), (3.892) and harvest index (39.63), (35.62).
These rice mutants produce from 4.228 to 3.892 (t/fed) grain yield water stresses with 14% water saving of irrigation applied. The total of irrigation water was 5140 m3/ fed compared to 4440 m3/ fed. With yield reduction (36.98) and drought susceptibility index. Also could be used as a donor parents in rice breeding program for drought tolerance.
