Abstract

The liver is the body’s most prominent metabolizing organ which directs the homeostasis of different body frameworks. One of the infections that influence it is liver cancer, the incidence of liver cancer has been rising everywhere. It ranks as the six most common cancer globally. Up to 90% of all significant hepatic malignancies are hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC), the most prevalent kind of liver cancer. HCC is 80 percent of the time preceded by liver cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is caused by chronic viral hepatitis such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), metabolic liver illnesses such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. It is still difficult to find a viable treatment for HCC because it is a multi-gene and multi-step disease. As a result, there is a pressing need to find highly effective anti-tumor medications for HCC patients.Diethylnitrosamine (DEN) has a strong hepatocarcinogenic activity that was utilized to cause HCC in a rat model. One of the most popular experimental models for examining liver cancer and screening prospective anti-HCC medicines is the DEN-induced HCC model. DEN is a member of the nitrosamine family, which induces hepatotoxicity and carcinogenesis in both animals and humans. It can be found in foods including cheese, soybeans, cured meat, and alcoholic beverages, as well as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and tobacco Several research has started to concentrate on the anticancer potential of natural-origin chemicals. Berberine offers a diverse set of medicinal effects. It is commonly used to cure illnesses. Berberine’s pharmacology has been thoroughly explored, and it has been found to have anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties.
