Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the clinical effect of intra-articular injection of PRGF after arthrocentesis versus arthrocentesis only . Patients were chosen to participate in this study suffered from TMJ pain and limited mouth opening, joint sound. Nine females out of 16 selected patients (56.2%), their ages ranged from 18-52 years, with an average of 39 ± 12.35years . They were randomly assigned into 1 of 2 equal groups. This group assignment was kept blinded to the patients and research candidate: group A: Arthrocentesis with intra articular injection of 1 ml of PRGF at the end of the procedure was performed. group B: Arthrocentesis only. The clinical outcome measure parameters were assessed at baseline, i.e. before arthrocentesis, and then again at 6, 12, 18 and 30 weeks postoperatively. The evaluated parameters include; assessment of articular pain (0 {u2013} 10 VAS), MMO and joint sound. Both groups showed significant decrease in mean VAS, significant increase in the mean MMO and significant decrease in joint sound through all the study periods.The evaluated parameters showed insignificant difference between groups throughout the study intervals with the exception that the PRGF group showed statistically significant pain reduction 30 weeks postoperatively. The PRGF group (group A) showed statistically significant higher means of MMO in 6 weeks postoperatively. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding number of patients suffering of joint sound at each interval
