Abstract

The effect of the deformation and orientation of both the projectile and target nuclei on the fusion cross section and the fusion barrier distribution is investigated. In particular, we investigated the orientation behavior of the interaction potential between highly-deformed oblate ²⁸Si nuclei and its influences on the fusion process. The deformed-deformed interaction potential is considered in a semi-microscopic approach based on the double-folding model. The realistic M3Y-Reid form of the nucleon-nucleon effective interaction is used. The effects of the deformations and relative orientations between the interacting nuclei on their Coulomb barrier height, radius and curvature are investigated carefully. The computed interaction potentials are employed in turn to study the fusion cross section and the fusion barrier distribution. In addition, the optimum orientations for the fusion process as well as the orientation-average of the related quantities are studied, in the orientation degrees of freedom. Moreover, we studied the influences of static deformations on the fusion process of the deformed-deformed ²⁸Si+³{u⁰⁰B⁰}Si, ¹⁶O+²³⁸U, ¹⁶O+¹⁷⁴ Yb,²⁸Sii+⁶⁴ Ni, ³²S+⁶⁴ Ni, ³² S+¹⁸² W, and³⁴ S+²⁸³U systems
