Abstract

Background: Myofascial Trigger Point (MTrP) play a major role in genesis of mechanical neck pain, which may lead to chronic disorders. Purpose: To investigate and compare between the effect of Ice Massage plus Integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition Technique (INIT) versus INIT alone on decreasing pain, increasing function and range of motion of cervical region in persons having mechanical neck pain with upper trapezius muscle active trigger points. Subjects Materials and Methods: Forty subjects (25 female and 15 male) with their age ranged from (18-35) with mean of (29.20 ± 4.64) years and BMI mean of (23.71± 1.47) kg/m2. All subjects were recruited from physical therapy outpatient clinic in El-Sheikh Zaid Family Medicine Center and diagnosed as mechanical neck pain with active trigger points. They divided randomly into two equal groups. (Experimental Group), received ice massage for 10 min plus INIT, while (control Group), received (INIT) alone. The treatment program continued for 2 weeks (3 sessions/week). Measurements were carried out before and after treatment, pain intensity using Visual analogue scale (VAS), Pain pressure threshold (PPT) using algometer, cervical function using Arabic version of neck disability index (ANDI), as well as cervical range of motion using (CROM)
