Abstract

The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of virgin olive oil on some blood parameters in male rats supplemented with normal and hyperlipidemic diet. Seventy male Sprague Dawley rats, (90-110 g), were used in the present study, two experiments were performed, each one lasts 4 weeks. In the 1st experiment, rats were divided into three groups (10 each), 1st group; (control), received basel diet and supplemented with 1ml saline. Second and 3rd groups received basal diet, and supplemented with 1ml/100g and 2ml/100g of virgin olive oil, respectively. In the 2nd experiment, rats were divided into five groups (10 each): 1st group, was the same control group of the first experiment. Second group, received hyperlipidaemic diet. Third group received hyperlipidaemic diet and supplemented with (1 ml VOO/100g B.W), 4th group received hyperlipidaemic diet and supplemented with (2 ml VOO/100g B.W), 5th group recived hyperlipidaemic diet, followed by the basal diet, to the end of experiment.Blood samples were collected weekly from all rats. Whole blood was obtained for determination of some haematological parameters, while sera were collected for the assay of lipid profile, kidneyr & live functions, throid hormones. Also feed intake, body weights and feed conversion ratio were recorded weekly. At the end of the experimental period, rats were sacrificed and organs were collected for histopathological examinationdiet group
