Abstract

An Enhanced method for determination of free and bound 3-MCPD has been established. The enhancement comprises; reduced sample preparation time (1hour instead of several hours), rapid Triple Quadrupole GC/MS detection (12 minutes rather than 30 minutes in average) joint with augmented selectivity and sensitivity. The method has been entirely validated. The LOQ and LOD have been found to be less than 2og/Kg and 0.5og/Kg respectively. The recoveries have been ranged between 98 to 106 %. The reproducibility expressed as RSD% was less than 8 % while measurement uncertainty was in the range of ± 13.5%. The method has been internationally accredited by FINAS for fulfilling the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 standard. The enhanced method has been applied for analysis of 15 local market samples. The obtained results revealed the occurrence of free 3-MCPD within the maximum permitted levels whereas the bound 3-MCPD levels varied between less than LOQ to 4786 og/Kg
