Abstract

Background: postmenopausal abdominal obesity is a common problem, which affects the majority of women after menopause. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether 12 weeks of moderate-intensity aerobic, or combined exercise training would induce improvements in lipid profile so that, cardiovascular risk, weight and fat would reduce in overweight in postmenopausal obese women. Subjects and Methods: Thirty postmenopausal women, suffered from abdominal obesity , participated in this study. Their age ranged from 47 to 53 years, and body mass index was>30 kg/m2. Women were randomly divided into 2 groups; group (A) walk on treadmill for 30 min in moderate intensity; group (B) walk on treadmill for 30 min in moderate intensity in addition to resistive exercise. Both groups exercising for 3 days/week for 12 weeks. Examining the effects of different exercises regimes on fasting measures of lipids, changes in body weight, BMI and WHR .Results: It showed that group (A) had significant decrease where group (B) had highly significant decrease (P=0.0001) in BMI , WHR , LDL , TC & FTG . However, group A showed that significant increase in HDL (P=0.0001). In comparing between group A and group B there is significant difference in improvement Compared to group A, group B showed highly significant improvement .Conclusion:Therefore, combination exercise training should be recommended for overweight and abdominal obese postmenopausal woman in National Physical Activity Guidelines
