Abstract

Background: Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) has been known as major problem in fetal and neonatal period. In-utero transfusion is now well under control and improves the survival of fetuses monitored for fetal anemia. Limited studies are available on the effect of IUT on postnatal outcome. Objectives: to assess the short-term neonatal outcome associated with prenatal therapy of Rh-alloimmunization (HDFN) by Doppler assessment of middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity of blood flow for monitoring of fetal anemia (MCA-PSV) and management by Intrauterine Fetal Blood Transfusion (IUT) with chief concern to neurological impairment in neonates. Patients and Methods: cohort, observational study. The study was conducted at NICU wards of Cairo University and fetal medicine unit at Kasr El Aini maternity hospital, Cairo University. Neonates, suffered Rh-alloimmunization hemolytic disease, during the period from December 2015 through 2019, and met inclusion criteria, have been evaluated and categorized according to time of presentation in to prenatal group and postnatal group. However the prenatal group was monitored since their presentation during fetal period and was managed by IUT when needed. The neonatal outcome between the two study groups was compared
