Abstract

Background: LSG gained popularity for obvious advantages. Its appeal is in its relative operative simplicity and lower risk profile, along with promising short and mid-term weight loss outcomes. Contrast study after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy can demonstrate and predict many features of the sleeve. The pattern of sleeve can be identified and the transit time can be assessed as early as the first or second day postoperatively. Early postoperative fluid tolerance varies among patients and influences the length of hospital stay because patients can be safely discharged only when able to tolerate enough fluids to obviate intravenous support. Differential water intolerance exists with no obvious explanation in literature. This study aims to describe this phenomenon together with utilizing contrast study to illustrate any existing relations between tolerance and pattern of fluid flow after LSG. Methods: A total of 51 Egyptian patients were subjected to LSG. Different intraoperative sleeve measurements were obtained. Contrast study was done in the first 48 hours postoperative as well as 3 months later. Fluid tolerance was assessed separately for water and juice using Suter like score system. Data were compared and correlated
