Abstract

Acinetobacter baumannii has been identified as one of the most troublesome pathogens for healthcare institutions worldwide. It affects mainly patients in intensive care units and is usually resistant to most antibiotics. Adherence of bacteria to epithelial cells is an essential step in the route of infection. A. baumannii has the ability to cause adhesion and invasion on respiratory cell than any other types of cells. One of the important factors contributing to its drug resistance is mainly the impermeability of different classes of antibiotics across the outer membrane (OM). Outer membrane protein A of A. baumannii (AbOmpA) was known as a potential virulence factor that induces host cell death through both mitochondrial and nuclear targeting. In this work, the isolates were characterized phenotypically by antibiotic susceptibility test and genotypically by using REP-PCR profile analysis. This study investigates the virulence (adhesion and invasion) of clinically isolated multidrug resistant (MDR) A baumannii on different cell lines
