Abstract Two hundred and thirty eight children within age range (6-12) included in this study from Resala Association’s institutions in Cairo divided into two equal groups, intervention group and control group. Data were collected in cooperation with caregivers of Resala Association’s institutions. Clinical examination of all the study children was conducted at baseline and after one week, three weeks and six weeks after implementation of educational program. Clinical examination was conducted in Resala institutions while the child was sitting on an ordinary chair in natural day light. Examintion was carried out using disposable mouth mirrors and sharp explorers. Oral health education was done for children and their care givers about various diseases affecting the oral cavity and the effects of bad oral hygiene and tooth decay via posters and then children instructed about the of importance of tooth brushing and corrects methods of tooth brushing using jaw model and tooth brush. Three follow up examination were assessed after one week, three weeks and six weeks using oral hygiene simplified index (OHIS) written in a procedure sheet including the assessment of oral hygiene status at the base line for evaluating the effect of the dental educational program |
