Abstract

Objectives: The present study had been designed to find the relation between the number of primary erupted teeth and the somatic measures in terms of body weight, height and Body Mass Index among a group of Egyptian children. participants and Methods: The sample included (91) Egyptian children aging from 5 to 36 months. The children were examined at various vaccination centers and Outpatient clinics affiliated to Ministry of health in Cairo governorate. Mothers were interviewed to obtain child’s name, gender, address and the telephone number. For each child, weight, height and the BMI (body mass index) were measured and the number of erupted primary teeth were counted. Results: The most influential factors affecting number of erupted primary teeth were height, weight and BMI. Children with increased height showed significantly higher number of erupted primary teeth. Children with increased weight showed significantly higher number of erupted primary teeth. BMI showed no effect regarding the number of erupted primary teeth except for the children aged 30 to 36 months. Conclusions: there is a relation between the height and weight of the children and the total number of erupted primary teeth
