Abstract

The morphology and histology of the male reproductive system reveal that it consists of pair of testes, a pair of vasa efferentia, a pair of seminal vesicles, a pair of vasa deferentia, a pair of mesodermal accessory glands (mesadenia), an ejaculatory bulb, an ejaculatory duct and an aedeagus. The testis is composed of seven sperm tubes and spermatogenesis occurs within the lumen of the sperm tubes. Ultrastructure of the male testes showed three developmental zones: growth zone, maturation zone and differentiation zone. The histology and ultrastructure of the female ovary is telotrophic- merostic type and is divided to main region, the germarium (trophic chamber) and vitellarium regions. The tropharium region houses germinal cells and nurse cells. The vitellarium region houses oocytes in three development stages: previtellogenesis, vitellogenesis and choriogenesis. The total proteins of S. pandurus female ovary showed variations in concentration according to ovarian development and female mating experience
