Abstract

CD163, was significantly associated with the aggressive behavior of OSCC. Although the phenotypes of TAMs in different types of solid tumors have been extensively characterized, the phenotypes and functional properties of the TAMs that infiltrate premalignant lesions remain to be determined. The expression of the angiogenic activity has been shown to be an early and predictable characteristic of many pre-neoplastic cells, and may represent one of the earliest indications that a cell population has become committed to malignancy. This study was conducted to point out new markers that could be used for early detection of molecular changes prior to malignant transformation. A total of 48 adult male egyptian albino rats with an age range of 3 to 4 months and with a weight range of 130 to 200 gm were selected. The rats were randomly distributed into two groups: control and experimental groups. Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to the time of sacrifice (after 6 and 9 weeks from the start of painting). Twenty four rats were housed under the same conditions and did not receive any treatment. Twenty four rats were anesthetized by ketamine 80-100 mg/kg intraperitonealy (IP) and xylazine 10-12.5 mg/kg (IP). The buccal mucosa was painted once with a number 3 camel hairbrush. Then, the rats had their buccal mucosa painted (topically) with DMBA and formaldehyde, 0.5% DMBA in acetone 3 days/week, and after 9 days 10% formaldehyde/water was used side by side with DMBA throughout the study period 6 and 9 weeks
