Abstract Abstract Print and online terminological resources are accredited a reliable status as linguistic and conceptual references by monolingual and multilingual terminological users. However, most of the traditional dictionaries and data bases present terms randomly in broad domains so that terminological users in a specific subdomain usually encounter terminological gaps in the available references. This terminological gap is evident in financial dictionaries and term bases which introduce a limited range of terms in the financial subfield of the securities exchange. This thesis is meant to fill in this terminological gap by elaborating a bilingual English-Arabic terminological resource for the securities exchange. For this purpose, the thesis applies Frame based Terminology (Faber 2012, 2015) to a comparable English-Arabic specialized corpus of approximately 2 million words. The constructed resource presents each concept within the context of a conceptual hierarchy and a semantic network to reflect the hierarchal and associative relations between semantically related concepts. These conceptual structures are formed in consonance with the meaning parameters codified in the definitional template for each conceptual category. As such, the proposed resource promotes the understanding of specialized knowledge and ensures effective communication between text senders and receivers within the selected subfield. |
