Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a common and complex skin disorder that distresses many patients. It is a multifactorial chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous follicles characterized mainly by comedones and inflammatory lesions such as papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Many factors have been proposed that may underlie the pathogenesis of acne, including hormonal influences, increased levels of sebum secretion, follicular hyperkeratinization leading to follicular plugging, Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) colonization, and inflammatory mediators such as cytokines have been identified around pilosebaceous units and acne lesion.
