Abstract
The introductory chapter of this thesis has been devoted to review the synthesis and biological activities of pyrimidine heterocycles. Such a broad spectrum of activities gave us the impetus to initiate the work contained in this thesis which has been directed towards the synthesis of members of these compounds. The work includes the synthesis and characterization of certain 2-hydrazino-6-oxo-4-phenyl-1,6-dihydropyrimidine-5-carbonitrile and Sugar-6-oxo-4-phenyl-1,6-dihydropyrimidine-5-carbonitrile-2-hydrazones. Moreover, the reactions of latter one with acetic anhydride were also studied.
