Abstract

The present investigation was conducted in the Plant Production Department, Faculty of
Agriculture (Saba Basha), Alexandria University to clarify the relationship between the
classer’s grade (CG) and both 3-digit color (3-DCG) and the trash grades obtained from the
High-Volume Instrument (H.V.I.). Besides, the contribution percentage of the HVI fiber
properties to the classer and instrumental grades should be calculated and used to predict
those grades.
Five commercial Egyptian cotton varieties namely: Giza 87 and Giza 92 (belong to extra-long
staple), Giza 94, Giza 86 and Giza 90 (belong to long staple) were involved in this study
through 2017 and 2018 seasons. Data of the Classer Grade and its corresponding H.V.I. fiber
properties of the different grades belonged to the five cotton varieties were attained from the
Cotton Arbitration and Testing General Organization (CATGO) laboratories at Smouha and
the Modern Nile Company, Alexandria, Egypt. Complementry data of six grades [Good/Fully
Good (G/FG), Good+3/8, Good+5/16, Good+1/4, Good+1/8, Good), in four replicates, of the
two seasons 2017 and 2018, were collected for each cotton variety.
