Abstract

This experiment was conducted from 18th of August to 21st of September of the years 2019 and 2020 , respectively Four types of natural plants that spread in El Gabal Al-Akhdar region were used : Thymus capitatas, Rosmarinus officinalis, Artemisia alba and Salvia officinalis (tea apple) to control Varroa Acari, Varroa destructor All the studied plants were applied in two ways, the first as a water drench and the second as smoking. Four hives were allocated for each of the previous applications in addition to four hives that were not treated with any substance and were considered as a check treatment.
Our results showed the following :
1. Control of Varroa with natural plants:
In this experiment, four types of natural plants spread in the Al-Gabal al-Akhdar region were used: Thymus capitatas - Artemisia herba-alba - Rosmarinus officinalis - Sage or what is popularly known in Libya by( tea apples) Salvia officinalis to combat Varroa destructor mite. All used plants were studied in two ways, the first as a water infusion and the second in the form of smoking, in addition to the control that was left without treatment with any substance. Four hives were allocated for each of the previous applications, and the hives were treated with these plants three times, separating each time six days and the fallen Varroa is considered daily throughout the period of the experiment.
The results showed that all the used materials gave efficacy in dropping Varroa destructor mites, as the effect of the methods used varied, so we noticed that plant materials, whether they were used as a spray (plant extract) or smoking achieved a good rate in dropping the Varroa mites . The highest was the Thymus plant (smoking) which recorded an average fallout of 17.00 that in the year 2019 and 16.84 in the year 2020, and the relative effectiveness of the control substance was 74.52% and 72.62% in the two years respectively. Rosmarinus plant also achieved an average fallout of 16.23 and 15.69 and a potency rate of 72.08% and 71.06%, respectively. The lowest average of fallen varroa was achieved when treated with Artemisia plants by smoking method, reaching 8.79 and 8.19 and relative effectiveness of 40.84%& 38.95% ;while the control achieved an average of fallen rate of 3.55 and an efficacy of 1.87% for the year 2019 and 4.10 for the year 2020 and an effective rate of 1.40% for the year 2020 . The superiority of Rosmarinus & Thymus extracts as smoking was evident, as they gave the highest efficacy in Varroa shedding as well as the least effectiveness in the smoking of the Artemisia plant.
