Television drama is one of the most important contents that the audience or adolescents accept because of its indirect impact on the formation of trends, the modification of opinions and behavior, and contribute to the formation of mental images of situations, events, topics and people, as it affects the formation of the perception of individuals and their future trends and their relationship with others due to its dependence on the indirect pattern in providing experiences and advice, and television dramas - including series - are one of the most important communication activities, especially in television, and on the other hand superstitious ideas There is hardly a society without it, every human society has some superstitions that some people believe but they differ in terms of their type or content from one society to another, so knowing the mythical ideas that are widespread and knowing their content and type helps in knowing the problems that are widespread in society and because of which people resort to those superstitious ideas.
The problem of the study and its questions
The researcher wants to know the attitudes of adolescent girls towards the superstitious ideas and beliefs presented through television series and their relationship to the reality perceived about those ideas and therefore the problem of the study is summarized in the following main question:
What are the attitudes of adolescent girls (university students) towards superstitious thought in Egyptian television drama and their relationship to their perception of social reality?
Several sub-questions arise from this main question:
First: Questions related to the analysis of the content of the series sample of the study
It is divided into
- Questions specific to the form (how was it said?):
•What are the templates and dramatic forms used in the TV series ”Study Sample”?
•What are the predominant topics on the content of the series sample study?
•What time period did the TV series sample deal with?
•What language level do the characters who embodied superstitious ideas speak?

Content questions (what was said?):
•What kinds of superstitious ideas appeared in the TV series ”Study Sample”?
•What is the direction of the content presented in the TV series of the study sample?
•What problems do the characters in the series face?
•What is the nature of the activities or actions of the characters who embodied superstitious ideas?
Second: Questions specific to viewers of television drama from adolescent girls
•What is the rate of exposure of adolescent girls to Egyptian television series?
•How many times are female researchers keen to watch Egyptian television dramas?
•How many hours do female researchers watch Egyptian TV drama per day?
•What kind of topics do adolescent girls prefer to watch in Egyptian TV series?
•Which dramas do adolescent girls in the study sample prefer to watch?
Importance of the study:
•Shedding light on an important phenomenon that has come to be addressed in many television series, namely superstitious ideas (magic, charlatanism and sorcery).
•The lack of previous media studies that dealt with superstitious ideas, especially from a dramatic point of view, considering that drama has a great impact on the formation of audience trends.
•The importance of the age stage covered by the study, which is the late adolescence stage and the high demand by adolescent girls to watch the series shown by Egyptian satellite channels.
•The spread of this phenomenon, which is superstitious ideas in some sectors of society, and this is what has been shown by many statistics and previous studies.
Objectives of the study:
• Special objectives in the form and content of the TV series sample study
•Identify the predominant topics on the content of the study sample series during the analysis period.
•Monitor the templates and dramatic forms used in the television series ”Study Sample”, and identify the society or environment they address and the period of time in which the events of these series take place.
•Reveal the type of behavior and superstitious ideas that appeared in television series.
•Know the direction of the content presented in the TV series study sample
•Identify the style and method of presenting superstitious ideas in the television series ”Study Sample”.
Special goals for teenage TV series viewers
•Monitoring the rates of exposure of adolescent girls to Egyptian television series.
•Know the type of topics that adolescent girls prefer to watch in Egyptian television series.
•Identify the dramas that adolescent girls prefer to watch in the study sample.
•Monitoring the rates of exposure of adolescent girls to television series that deal with superstitious ideas.
•Reveal the realism of television series that deal with superstitious ideas.
•Identify the motives for teenage girls watching this type of television series.
Study Limits:
•Objectivity: It consists in knowing the trends of adolescent girls (students of Cairo and Banha universities) towards superstitious thought in Egyptian television drama..
• Time: The analytical study was applied to the sample of series that dealt with superstitious ideas in the period from 2014 to 2021. .
• Spatial : where the field study was applied to a sample of adolescent girls (university students) from the universities of (Cairo and Banha) in the governorates of Cairo and Qalyubia from the age of 18 to 21 years, consisting of (400) individual students of the Faculty of Specific Education at Cairo and Banha universities.
•Human: The field study will be applied to a sample of university students from adolescent girls aged 18-19 years.
Procedural definitions of the study:
The researcher adopts the following procedural definitions:
•Attitudes: ”It is a hypothetical formation that refers to a fairly stable orientation or organization of an individual’s feelings, acquaintances and willingness to take certain actions, towards any subject of thinking whether macroscopic or abstract and is represented by degrees of acceptance and rejection of that subject that can be expressed verbally or performatively.
•Adolescent: Adolescence is the stage that moves the individual from childhood to adulthood and adulthood, and the researcher means adolescent girls in this study university students aged 18-19 years.
•Egyptian television drama: means series, plays, films and dramas and with the intention of the researcher in this study Egyptian television series shown by satellite channels represented in channels (Al-Nahar Drama, MBC Egypt, Al-Hayat Series, and others).
•Superstitious thought: They are relatively fixed perceptions and knowledge that do not correspond to objective reality but contradict it, and spread among a number of members of society and are based on metaphysical concepts, and therefore difficult to verify.
Study variables:
•Independent Variable: Superstitious Thought in Egyptian Television Drama.
•Intermediate variable: Demographic variables represented by (social and economic level, place of residence).
•Dependent Variable: Adolescent girls’ attitudes towards superstitious thought in Egyptian television drama
Methodological procedures of the study:
Type and Curriculum of Study:
This study of descriptive studies is a method of studying, analyzing and interpreting scientific problems or phenomena through the information collected, this study is based on the sample survey approach of the study population.
Community and sample of the study:
First: The community and sample of the analytical study:
The study population is represented in a group of Egyptian television series that dealt with superstitious ideas in the period from 6/2014 to 4/2021, and the researcher will conduct the study on a sample of Egyptian television series, which are as follows (Red Sulfur - The Witch of the South - The Seven Commandments - Kafr Delhab - Halal - Jamal Al-Harem – Maddah).
Second: The community and sample of the field study:
The field study was applied to a deliberate sample of adolescent female university students from the universities of Cairo and Banha in Cairo and Qalyubia governorates from the age of 18 to 19 years, consisting of (381) singles and the exclusion of (19) singles from the students of the Faculty of Specific Education at Cairo and Banha universities, through a questionnaire form distributed to them after the application of the analytical study.
Study Tools:
First: Content Analysis Form:
Content analysis is one of the research methods commonly used in media studies that fall under the survey methodology.
Second: Questionnaire Form:
The researcher used a questionnaire form as a tool to collect data as the questionnaire is one of the methods used to collect data directly from the selected sample by asking a set of specific and prepared questions in advance.
Third: attitude Scale:
A set of statements that measure trends toward a topic, with a set of responses of varying intensity.
Study Results:
The results of the analytical study include:
•The dominant dramatic template on the content of the Egyptian television series sample of the study is the tragic template, in the first place with a percentage of 89.74%.
•The focus on social issues came in first place with 42.9% with a total of three dramas.
•The roles were negative in front of the different roles of the characters, by 82.3% and the number of characters 51 characters
•It was found that the behavior and idea of the work of magic talismans and sorcery came at the forefront of the types of superstitious behavior in the television series sample of the study, where the number of scenes that dealt with this behavior reached 230 scenes, a percentage of 55.4% of the total scenes of superstitious ideas.
The results of the field study include:
•Most of the respondents have watched Egyptian television series that dealt with superstitious ideas, and the degrees of follow-up have varied, with the percentage of those who follow this drama sometimes reaching 55.12%.
•The largest percentage of adolescent girls believe that the series are somewhat realistic at 64.04%, followed by unrealistic at 30.45%.
•The positive effects resulting from watching series dealing with superstitious ideas for adolescent girls The study sample appeared in warning viewers of the danger of superstitious ideas in the foreground by 58.8%.
•The negative effects resulting from watching series that deal with superstitious ideas according to the adolescent girls sample of the study, the dissemination of superstitious ideas among people and their emphasis came in the forefront by 65.4%.
•The proposals to activate (improve) the role of television drama (series) in addressing superstitious thought, realism and not to exaggerate or exaggerate in addressing these issues came in the forefront by 53.3%.
• The existence of statistically significant differences between adolescent girls’ responses on the scale of trend towards superstitious ideas depending on the place of residence (rural and urban). In favor of the countryside where the tendency they had towards superstitious ideas was higher.
•There are statistically significant differences between adolescent girls whose mothers are illiterate, and adolescent girls whose mothers are educated, as it was found that illiterate mothers have a tendency towards superstitious ideas more than any other group.
•There is a statistically significant difference between adolescent girls’ responses on the scale of tendency towards superstitious ideas depending on the father’s work (works and does not work) in favor of those who do not work where the tendency towards superstitious ideas was higher.
