Abstract
Family Lamiaceae (Labiatae, Mint) constitutes about 236 genera and around 6900-7200 species of annual or perennial herbs. Genus Salvia is characterized by presence of various compounds like essential oils, terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acids and phenolic glycosides with many biological activities such as antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, spasmolytic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, cytotoxic, anticonvulsant, astringent, sedative, antiseptic and carminative effects.
