Abstract

Restoring teeth in the esthetic zone is a challenging procedure that requires matching the fabricated restoration with the natural teeth in color, translucency, shape, and surface form. Dental implants have the priority in replacing missing teeth, especially in the esthetic zone. Using titanium in dental implants has been found to have a long-term success rate due to its low weight, biocompatibility, corrosion, and fatigue resistance. One of the main drawbacks that may affect its use in the esthetic area is the gray color of the titanium, especially when attempting to place an all-ceramic crown.
Anodic oxidation is considered a safe production of stable colors, chairside, non-invasive, inexpensive, and well-established technique. The color of the final restoration over the dental implant is multi-factorial and the substrate color and thickness of ceramic have to be considered.
The anodization process of titanium to the yellow color done in the present study has improved results on the color of the ceramic restoration which appear to be lighter, redder, and yellower than the unanodized gray titanium and it could play an important role in obtaining an esthetic ceramic restoration over dental implants with adjusting the other factors.
Increasing the lithium disilicate thickness from 1 to 1.5 and 2 mm has a significant improvement on its color masking ability recommending maximizing the thickness of lithium disilicate which is resulting in better color matching restoration.
