Abstract

The aim of present randomized control trial wasto compare patient satisfaction and retention of complete dentures manufactured by digital and conventional techniques.Forty-eightpatients were recruited from the Outpatient clinic of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine Cairo University. Following a strict inclusion criterion, all included patients had signed an informed consent to enroll in the study. All patients followed the first steps of complete denture construction as; diagnosis and examination, preliminary impressions, final impressions, facebow record and jaw relation record. Then, all patients were randomized using computer generated program for randomization to allocate eligible patients to intervention and control groups using opaque sealed envelopes with a code at each envelope to assign each patient to which group. For intervention groups digital scanning, designing and digital manufacturing of complete dentures were done using CAD CAM technology and two manufacturing techniques 3D printing and milling. For the comparator group, complete dentures were manufactured in the conventional way of processing steps. After 2 weeks of delivery of the dentures, each patient received a questionnaire to address the patient{u2019}s satisfaction of the new dentures, and retention was measured by retention force gauge 2 weeks after delivery, after 3 months then after 6 months. The results showed no statistical difference in terms of patient satisfaction and retention between the three groups verifying that any of these techniques can be successfully used in rehabilitating edentulous patients with complete denture
