Abstract
Background: Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a skin disorder characterised by presence of skin coloured or hyperpigmented rough papules. It usually affects thighs, arms, buttocks and other sites. Although medically asymptomatic, the appearance is cosmetically annoying the patients and thus affects their quality of life. Despite of the different treatment modalities of KP, there is no single proven effective treatment yet. Peeling with salicylic acid (SA) and lactic acid (LA) is one of the options of treatment to remove the keratin layers. Aim of work: To find an easy feasible solution for all patients of KP and to compare the efficacy of SA and LA chemical peels in treatment of KP.Methodology: A total of 20 patients with bilateral symmetrical KP were enrolled in this study. The right sides were subjected to SA 30% peel and the left sides were subjected to LA 50% peel. Three sessions were done with 2-week interval. Follow-up was done after 1 month of the last session. Clinical and dermoscopic photographs were taken before every session and at follow-up. Two blinded investigators assessed clinical photographs while texture change was assessed by the treating physician. Dermoscopic photos were used as an objective tool to assess the improvement.
