Abstract Cone beam computed tomography is widely used nowadays for pre-operative implant planning. It has several merits as compared with 2D plain radiography. Although the radiation dose of CBCT is much lower than that of multislice CT, it is still higher than that of plain radiography. With CBCT being more popular, concerns about its radiation dose grew.Several low dose protocols were proposed in attempts to decrease the radiation dose to the patient. However, these protocols may affect the quality of the resultant images. This diagnostic accuracy study was conducted to show the effect of using the ultra-low dose radiation protocol of Planmeca ProMax 3D Mid CBCT scanner on the accuracy of linear measurements as well as the identification of the normal anatomical landmarks for pre-operative implant planning |
