Abstract

Diclofenac epolamine is one of nonsteroidal anti-inflammator(NSAIDs) drug .Orally used in treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis , ankylosing spondylitis and management of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It was reported that the gastrointestinal effects were the most common adverse events for all NSAIDs and their derivatives. Therefore, Diclofenac epolamine formulated in fast dissolving and flash dosage forms. The main objective of this study is to formulate oral Diclofenac epolamine fast dissolving tablets which depict high bioavailability and avoid first pass effect. Therefore, the work in this thesis is divided into three chapters Chapter I: Preparation of orodispersible Diclofenac Epolamine tablets by direct compression method using superdisintegrants The aim of this chapter is to formulate diclofenac epolamine orodispersible tablets (ODTs) with superdisintegrants to accelerate both disintegration and bioavailability. Certain formulations included Lyophilized Milk (LM) in their composition to produce a demulcent effect in buccal cavity and tongue in long term treatment with NSAIDs and boosts the dissolution of drug. ODTs will remain the route of choice for pediatrics and geriatrics who find difficulty in swallowing and those finding it difficult to reach the water
