Abstract

The aim of the study in hand was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the digital periapical radiography in measuring the mesiodistal dimension of unerupted permanent canines and premolars compared to the conventional periapical radiography before calculating the Leeway space in a group of Egyptian children. The study was performed on 100pediatric participants ranged between 6-10 years .The participants included 52 males and 48 females. All patients received two digital periapical radiographs and two conventional periapical radiographs for the anterior region (displaying the deciduous and permanent canines) and the posterior region (displaying the deciduous molars and the permanent successors). Direct linear measurements of the mesiodistal width of the deciduous canine and molars were taken on the study casts model for Lee way space calculation. The linear measurements of the mesiodistal width of the permanent canine and premolars conducted on conventional periapical radiographs, were taken using digital caliber and the linear measurements of digital radiograph using the digital periapical radiographs were conducted on the computer monitor using the built in linear measuring tools of the Digora software. The measurements of the digital and conventional radiographs were then compared for determining their accuracy and then the sum of the mesiodistal width of deciduous canine and molars were compared to their permanent counterpart to calculate the Leeway space
