Abstract Purpose: Colorectal peritoneal carcinomatosis (CRC PC) represents an advanced stage of disease. Unfortunately the CRC PC does not respond well to systemic chemotherapy like other sites of distant metastasis, and treatment with chemotherapy alone carried a dismal prognosis. Treatment of those patients with (CRS+HIPEC) markedly improved the outcome.Despite of that, the recurrence following this procedure remains high. We aimed to study the patterns of this recurrence and to determine its possible predictors. Patients and Methods: A prospectively collected data of 61 (CRC PC) patients that underwent CRS with or without HIPEC from January 2009 to June 2018 at National Cancer Institute, Cairo University, Egypt were retrospectively analyzed.Patients with PC of appendiceal origin or other non-epithelial histopathology were excluded. Results: 61 patients received surgical treatment for their peritoneal disease. 45(73.8%) patients underwent CRS plus HIPEC and 16(26.2%) patients underwent CRS alone. Median follow up period was 14 months (rang: 6-72 months).Over all recurrence rate within follow up was 42.6% (26 of 61 patients). The median time to recurrence was 9 months (rang: 3-58 months). Of 26 patients with recurrent disease, 22 patients developed a peritoneal relapse (either alone or in association with distant metastasis or local recurrence) |
