Abstract

Our systematic review is the first comparative review in literature comparing between open and arthroscopic techniques in management of displaced posterior cruciate ligament tibial avulsion fracture, we included three comparative randomized controlled trials. All the included studies showed satisfactory outcome with both open and arthroscopic techniques without considerable difference.
Arthroscopic technique has the advantage of minimally invasive approach, relative earlier recovery, in addition to evaluation and management of the associated meniscal and chondral injuries without secondary operation, but it requires a steeper learning curve as this approach needs surgeons trained in arthroscopic technique.
Open surgical reduction and fixation has the advantages of lower cost and shorter operative time and general trauma surgeons are familiar with open approach.
Future comparative studies with large number of participants may help to clarify the difference between the two approaches.
CONCLUSION
We didn’t find any obvious superiority of one technique over the other for displaced PCL avulsion fracture treatment, further comparative studies with large population are needed to gain better understanding of that injury.
