المستخلص

The study deals with family life under the Almoravid State rule. The significance of this topic stems from the fact that the family is the smallest unit of formation that societies are built on. The study also aims at highlighting the degraded condition of society before the reign of the Almoravid State, and how that condition was changed altogether afterwards.
The study also underlines the nature, details and problems of family life back then from the very first stage of family formation, as well as the continuous impacts of the Islamic civilization on that. Scholars of Islamic jurisprudence in the West African region made a miraculous change when they turned a totally corrupt society in across a vast territory into a righteous one where Islamic values spread, like enjoining good and forbidding evil.
It used the descriptive approach based on information narration and analysis. It deals with calamities that befell the Almoravid State and were marked by realism, diversity and conclusiveness. The study also brings up the fact that dealing with historical calamities requires patience to extract the historical material from them.
The study also tackles the place and time of formation of the Almoravid State since those two factors influenced social life back then. The geographical position of the Almoravid State had an immense impact on social life and lifestyle, including food and dress code, and the foundation of the Almoravid State also served a good purpose in outlining family life.
The study deals with the early stage of family union through marriage and its ceremonies. It also discusses the problems that lead to divorce and the effect of the latter on the family, particularly children, and society at large.
The study also deals with the issue of heritage and bequests. Some left bequests that would assign wealth to a particular person or that it should be given to someone else. Different types of heirs were included with legal ones, according to Islamic sharia –the Quran, Sunnah and reasoning of jurisprudence scholars back then who ensured that every one of the legal heirs was given their legitimate right in light of Islamic sharia. The study is closed with a conclusion, table of contents and appendices.
