Abstract Splenectomy is indicated as a treatment for many pediatric patients suffering from benign hematological diseases (ITP, thalassemia, AIHA and spherocytosis) after the preliminary medical treatment. Since the introduction of laparoscopic splenectomy in 1991 it has become the standard method of splenectomy in these patients. Many methods have been described to control the splenic hilum including vessel sealing devices, titanium clips, Hem-o-lock clips, ligatures and staplers .The aim of our study was to evaluate the Hem-o-lock clips in controlling the splenic hilum during laparoscopic splenectomy in children with benign hematologic diseases, as regards feasibility, safety, operative time, cost and perioperative complications. |
