Abstract

This study had been applied on a total of (480) marine fishes of 3 species (160
Dicentrarchus labarx, 160 Dicentrarchus punctatus and 160 Sparus auratus) of
different body weights and lengths which collected in different seasons from Timsah
Lake in Ismailia Governorate from September 2020 to August 2021. The examined fish
showed no pathognomonic clinical abnormalities and were apparently normal. Some D.
labrax showed hemorrhagic areas at mouth, operculum, around eye and at fin bases,
abdominal distention and emaciation. Infested D. punctatus showed excessive mucus
and mosaic appearance of gills. Some infested S. aurata showed external hemorrhagic
lesions with slight abdominal distention. The total prevalence of infestation was 57.91%.
The highest percentage was in Dicentrarachus punctatus (74.38%) followed by
Dicentrarchus labrax (71.25%) and then Sparus aurata (28.13%). The isolated parasites
were nematodes (Hysterothylacium aduncum, Anisakis simplex larvae and
Contracaecum Spp. larvae), digeneans (Erilepturus hamati and Tangiopsis chinensis),
crustacean parasites (Lernanathropus kroyeri, Caligus minimus) and isopod (Livoneca
redmanii). Seasonal prevalence and the relation between infestation and body wight and
length with statistical analysis were done. PCR was used for confirmation of the
morphologically identified Anisakis simplex larvae using (ND1) of mitochondrial (mt)
gene which give product at an approximately 370 bp. Also the phylogenetic analysis for
this nematode was done.
