Abstract

Part 1: A simple, efficient and ecofriendly procedure has been developed for the synthesis of bis(hexahydroacridine-1,8-diones) and bis(tetrahydro-dipyrazolo[3,4-b:4’,3’-e]pyridines) derivatives using p-TSA as catalyst under microwave-assisted reaction conditions as well as under conventional heating. Part 2: Synthesis of novel bis(hexahydro-1H-xanthene-1,8(2H)-diones) which are linked to aliphatic or aromatic spacers via ether or ester linkages were performed in good to excellent yields by the reaction of dimedone with the appropriate bis-aldehydes using p-TSA as a catalyst.The reaction of the bis-aldehydes with barbituric acid or 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid instead of dimedone afforded the corresponding Knoevenagel condensation adducts in good yield.Part 3: Novel bis(4-(14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes) and bis(dihydro-8H-benzo[a]xanthenones) were synthesized in good yields via the condensation of bis-aldehydes with four equivalents of Ý-naphthol or with a mixture of two equivalents of each of Ý-naphthol and dimedone. Bis(pyrano[3,2-c:5,6- c’]dichromenediones) or tetrakis (4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-ones) could be also obtained in good yields upon treatment of bis(aldehydes) with four molar ratio of 4-hydroxycoumarin
