Abstract

In the current study, we report our experience with pediatric parotid tumors, and include a summary of the current literature to provide a reference for the management of this disease. We collected and analyzed retrospective data on the pathology, management, of patients with parotid tumors who underwent surgical management at department of surgical oncology, National Cancer Institute, Cairo University (NCI) from (January 2008 - January 2018).Pediatric parotid tumors are very rare, in our study 41 patients in 10 years from 2008 to 2018 were identified. Male to female ratio was (2.7:1). FNA was the most common preoperative pathological investigation that was done in 33 cases (80.5%), FNAC and true cut biopsy were done in 8 cases(19.5%). Ultrasound was the most common preoperative imaging then CT followed by MRI. Different pathological variants were identified in our study. T2N0M0 was the most common stage in our study 24cases (58.5%). Among our study about 58.5% of pediatric parotid neoplasms are malignant, the most common malignant tumor was the mucoepidermoid carcinoma representing about 29.3% of all parotid neoplasms. while the benign pediatric parotid neoplasms represent about 41.5% and the most common benign tumor was the pleomorphic adenoma representing about 34.1% of all parotidneoplasms.Surgery (parotidectomy) is the main treatment adopted in our study. Superficial parotidectomy is the most common type of surgery: 22 cases (53.5%). Neck dissection was done for 17 cases (44.5%). Adjuvant radiotherapy was given for 10 cases (24.4%). Chemotherapy was given for 4 cases of rhabdomyosarcoma as a neoadjuvant treatment
