Abstract

Thesis Studies urban waterfront design & planning asan approach to provide a sustainable urban environment & to sustain thedevelopment process of regenerating the identity for each city The research shall explore the importance of developing sustainable urbanwaterfront environments in Egypt, & identify the methods of sustainabledesign application in these urban waterfronts aiming to form a comprehensivebackground around the importance of the development of urban waterfrontcommunities & focuses on identifying the best measures for assessing a waterfrontcommunity{u2019}s sustainability within the Egyptian context. Comparing three existing USC systems, aiming to deduct what{u2019}s essential, & what can be adjusted to make a concise set of design guidelines to be a reference for designing a sustainable waterfront community{u2019}s. These USC{u2019}S make a qualitative approach, which makes design decisions measurable & prioritized easier. Aspiringthat the induced set of design guidelines would form an effective, implementableguideline that practitioners & developers can use. Six case studies are analyzed testing the three of the USC{u2019}s systems. In order to comprehend their impacts on the people, the environment& the economy, understand their limitations & challenges that face thedesign through its entire life cycle thenrevisit the established results from the literary review to finally conduct the aspiredadaptive principals that can be the manifest used to develop the Egyptian waterfronts
