Abstract

Certified reference materials (CRMs) are recognized as the main building blocks of traceability dissemination in analytical measurements to the International System of Units (SI). They play a fundamental role in quality control, precision studies, verification and validation of test methods. Herein aluminum and copper alloys reference materials of different chemical compositions were developed by the National Institute of Standards (NIS), Egypt. Reference Materials (RMs) preparation, characterization, homogeneity assessment and statistical treatment of the data were investigated. The characterization process of RMs composition was performed through interlaboratory comparison using different independent analytical methods; X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), atomic emission spectrometer (AES), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) and atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS). The produced reference materials (RMs) homogeneity was assessed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the results proved that they were homogeneous enough to be used as quality control samples. The certified values of various elements in the alloys were derived out of the different analytical methods with their associated uncertainty at confidence level of approximately 95% in terms of the SI units
