Abstract Bacteria and their products are the main causative factor in the development of pulp and periapical diseases.The ultimate objective of root canal treatment is the elimination or reduction of microorganisms from root canal system through instrumentation, irrigation and intra-canal medication to prevent reinfection and subsequently, failure of endodontic treatment but, it is impossible to eradicate all microorganisms from root canal system due to their location in inaccessible areas. It is of great importance in many clinical situations that the endodontic sealers having an antimicrobial activity as sealers play a role in endodontic infection control by entombing residual microorganisms by their antimicrobial activities. In this study, the antimicrobial activity of BiorootTMRCS sealer and AH plus sealer in comparison to Tubli SealTM sealer against E. faecalis biofilms was tested by using a dentin infection model and confocal laser scanning microscope. E. faecalis bacteria was used as a test organism. Forty two dentin specimens were prepared from a human single rooted teeth infected with E. faecalis biofilms and incubated for 3 weeks.The tested sealers (BioRoot{u2122} RCS sealer, AH plus sealer and Tubli SealTM sealer) were mixed according to manufacturer{u2019}s instructions and added to the dentin wall of root canal of dentin specimen in equal thickness and placed at 370C in 100% relative humidity for 1, 7, and 30 days. The ratio of dead and live bacteria inside the dentinal tubule was measured by confocal laser scanning microscope |
