Abstract

Aim: to accomplish a comparative study between different cantilever lengths regarding the stress distribution in mandibular implant- supported fixed restoration by using finite element analysis, and assessment of stress distribution in Bone/implant interface in different zone of force applied while comparing two different prosthetic materials, PFM and acrylic screw retained fixed restorations.Methodology : Three-dimensional models simulated a clinical situation where an edentulous mandible was restored by two different treatment options using implant retained fixed restorations. The screw-retained fixed restorations were supported by four implants ; two at lateral incisors region and two at first pre-molars area. Two different restoration materials were tested; porcelain fused to metal (PFM), and Acrylic resin screw-retained fixed restorations. The load was vertically applied of value of 100N at first molars and 50N second premolars bilaterally. Results: With moving the site of load application away from the posterior implant , total deformation and Von Misses stresses of implants, screws and multi-unit abutments decreased , while the stresses on the peri-implant bone and mucosa increased, the screw-retained fixed restoration recorded high values of stresses with increasing the cantilever length
