Abstract

The technology dependance is increasing over time, humans nowadays include new diagnostic and investigation tools on almost everyday bases. One of most used technique in such area is using X-ray and gamma ray. The sources of gamma-ray radiation are vary based on the working environment (e.g., gamma camera unit, x-ray room in hospitals, and nuclear reactor). As humans have been subject to such places, instruments (e.g., devices or machines) also are subject to encounter such an environment. Shielding is very important in such situations, to reduce the amount of radiation reached out to humans or interfere with other instruments.Bentonite clay is widely available and used in construction sites (e.g., slurry wall or as known as diaphragm wall), it has good thermal properties. Its availability makes it cost-effective Also, bentonite is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. These characteristic properties make it suitable for shielding applications.
