Abstract
ABSTRACT
Background: Recurrent pregnancy loss is one of the most difficult problems in reproductive medicine. HCG is the hormone that produced in pregnancy, secreted by developing embryo soon after conception and later by the syncytiotrophoblast.
Objectives: The study aims to determine the accuracy of serum B-HCG at the 6th week of pregnancy to predict successful early pregnancy outcomes among women with a history of first trimesteric recurrent abortion.
Patients and Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted on 100 pregnant women recruited from outpatient clinic from Ain Shams university maternity hospital in the period between January 2018 and January 2019 after dropout of 10 patients the patient actually participated in this study were 90. The Pregnant women were at gestational age of 6 weeks and with a history of recurrent first trimesteric spontaneous abortion.
Results: There was highly statistically significant difference found between the outcome groups and the age with (p-value =0.004). i.e. the age is higher in the patients with failed pregnancy outcome. There was highly statistically significant difference found between the outcome groups regarding the number of previous abortions (p-value=0.005). i.e. the number of previous abortions is higher in the patients with failed pregnancy outcome.
Conclusion: This current study revealed that the higher levels of BHCG is usually associated with successful early pregnancy outcome so the quantitative BHCG is helpful in the prediction of the early pregnancy outcome.
