The study aims to identify the level of emotional blackmail and marital distress among married graduate students as well as the correlation between emotional blackmail and marital distress; define the differences between the duration of marriage, the educational level of the husband, the economic level of the family and the type of housing in the scale of the emotional blackmail as well as the role of emotional blackmail in predicting marital distress among the participants and identify the psychological structure and personality dynamics among the participants. The sample comprised (220) married post-graduate female students whose ages ranged between (22-45) years, with mean age (28.47) and standard deviation (4.63). The study adopted the emotional blackmail scale (prepared by the researcher). The results showed a high prevalence of emotional blackmail and marital distress among the participants of the married post-graduate female students. Moreover, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the participants’ scores on the emotional blackmail scale and their scores on the marital distress scale. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences on the emotional blackmail scale and the marital distress scale due to the variable of the husband’s educational level and the family’s economic level. In addition, there were statistically significant differences on the emotional blackmail scale and the marital distress scale due to the variable of marriage duration in favor of the period of less than five years and housing type in favor of the females dwelling in family house. Also, there was a difference in the psychological structure and personality dynamics of the participants with high and low emotional blackmail and marital distress.
