Abstract

Giant cell tumor (GCT) of bone is a benign locally aggressive tumor that constitutes 20% of the body benign bone tumors and 5 % of primary bone tumors (benign and malignant). Although benign, GCTs show a tendency for significant bone destruction, local recurrence.
It usually affects young adults between the agesof 20 and 40 years with slight female predominance. Most of GCTs exhibit the typical epiphyseometaphyseal orperi-articularlocation of long bones. Fifty percent of GCT affection is around the knee.
Treatment of GCT of bone is usually managed surgically. Intralesional curettage showed better functional outcome and less complication rate than wide excision as it saves the natural joint.
The aim of the work is to assess the functional and oncological outcome of using bone grafting and cementation with versus without gel foam in treatment of Giant cell tumor (GCT) patients around the knee.
The mean age of the patients of group I was 31.9years while that of group II was 30.8 years.
