Small and medium industries have assumed an important position in a large number of countries in the world, as they represent the locomotive of development, as they represent one of the economic sectors that receive great attention by officials because of their pivotal role in production, operation, income generation, innovation, progress and the introduction of some technology in addition to its role in achieving Economic and social goals in Egypt. Since these industries are a key factor in the comprehensive industrial development system, and their economic and social dimensions, the necessity of activating their role and overcoming any problems or obstacles in front of them, and providing all the necessary support for them is an imperative duty for researchers in various social sciences. Despite the great importance that small industries enjoy in the whole world in light of the many advantages they enjoy; The Egyptian economic climate is still filled with many obstacles that prevent the full benefit from the advantages of these projects, and since identifying these obstacles in a scientifically correct manner is the cornerstone of overcoming the problem. For many decades, the city of Damietta was on the throne of the furniture industry in Egypt, and its goods achieved an advanced position locally and globally, and were distinguished in Egypt by diversity and the use of various raw materials and materials, in addition to the high level of quality and competitiveness. competition as the backbone of the Egyptian economy in general and the Damietta economy in particular. Therefore, the obstacles of the furniture industry are considered the main role in the existence of social and economic problems for the majority of workers in this field in the city of Damietta, and we rarely find scientific research that places many of these obstacles in a systematic research framework. Social and economic problems in which institutions responsible for developing solutions such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Local Industries and the Furniture Industry Division play an important role and their role in limiting this phenomenon. Objectives of the study : The main objective of this study is determined in an attempt to reveal the social and economic effects of the obstacles facing the furniture industry in Damietta. A number of sub-objectives fall under this objective, perhaps the most important of which are: 1- Identifying the pattern of employment, its characteristics and its role in the furniture industry. 2- Exposing the impact of the global economic crisis on the furniture industry in Damietta. 3- Monitoring the obstacles related to the furniture industry in Damietta. 4- Shed light on the social effects of the obstacles facing the furniture industry in Damietta. 5- Identifying the economic effects of the obstacles facing the furniture industry in Damietta. 6- Exposing the state’s role in solving the problems of the furniture industry in Damietta. Within the framework of the main objective of the study, which is to try to detect the social and economic effects of the obstacles to the furniture industry in Damietta, we see that they fall under the type of studies (descriptive-analytical) as for the study tool represented in the questionnaire form, and this study was applied to a sample of (392) craftsmen Owners of workshops and factories only within Damietta Center, and they constitute (10%) of the study population.
