Abstract

Summary Accurate dating of pregnancy is critically important for pregnancy follow up from the first trimester to delivery and is particularly necessary for determining viability in premature and postdates deliveries. Failure to date pregnancies accurately can result in iatrogenic prematurity which is associated with increased perinatal morbidity and mortality.Prediction of fetal age (FA) based on sonographic fetal parameters is the cornerstone in modern obstetrics and continues to remain an important component in the follow up of pregnancies. A variety of sonographic fetal biometric parameters can be used to assess fetal age in the second and third trimesters such as biparietal diameter (BPD), femur length (FL), abdominal circumference (AC), head circumference (HC) and transverse cerebellar diameter (TCD) has important role in follow up of pregnancy. Aim of the work: The present study aimed to determine the accuracy of fetal transverse cerebellar diameter and vermal anteroposterior diameter as sonographic parameters for prediction of fetal age. Subjects and methods: A prospective cross-sectional study among pregnant women who underwent routine second and third trimesters ultrasound examination in routine antenatal care clinics at Tanta University Hospital between December 2020 to January 2022. Five hundred twenty normal pregnant women with known first day of last menstrual period (LMP) were examined for the TCD depending upon the fetal age of their fetuses from 14- 38 weeks. Four hundred sixty normal
