Abstract

Infections are the second most frequent cause of death and loss of access site, occurring more commonly with prosthetic devices. The risk of sepsis-related death is markedly increased in patients with CKD.
In this study, we tried to evaluate the clinical outcome of the management of infected AVFs as regard efficiency and primary patency of the AVFs at 1, 6 and 12 months after the repair or the new access follow up after the ligation.
This study included 50 patients with end-stage renal disease presented with infected AVFs were managed through repair or ligation during the period from November 2019 to December 2020 in a prospective manner.
As regarding the results of the follow up period of 30 cases of repaired fistulas, 90% of cases (27/30) remained patent after one month, 83% of cases (25/30) remained patent after 6 months and 80% of cases (24/30) remained patent and efficient after 1 year follow up.
