Abstract

The key to success in the dental field is to provide your patient with a better oral health-care.This is not done only by treatment of the disease, but also by encouraging and motivating the patient for future dental checkups and improving his hygiene. Unfortunately, dental anxiety and fear from the dentist is a major issue that threatens oral health-care. Individuals refuse to go to the dentist and skip their dental checkups because of their fear. This study was conducted at the postgraduate clinic in the Pediatric Department and Dental Public Health at Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University to evaluate the effectiveness of AV distraction technique using VR eyeglasses in reducing dental anxiety among pediatric dental patients. Forty two children were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups, 21 children in each group. group A where children had the conventional TSD technique in behavior management while in group B, children had AV distraction method using virtual reality eyeglasses (Nibiru 2.10.002, Guangdong, China) for behavior management. The dental visit duration was 20 minutes to complete pulp therapy with the final restoration. Buccal infiltration local anaesthesia for upper teeth and inferior alveolar nerve block for lower teeth was administered in both groups. Rubber dam was applied and removal of the decay was performed. Pulp was excavated with a sharp excavator and formecresol was applied followed by the final restoration
