Abstract Background: The lumbosacral Facet joint is reported to be the source of pain in 15-40% of patients with chronic Low Back Pain (LBP). Purpose: to investigate and compare the effect of Mulligan mobilization, lumbar traction and their combinationonpain intensity, functional disability and facet tropism in patients with lumbarfacet joint syndrome. Methods: Pretest-Posttest randomized controlled trial design, Sixty participants of both genders diagnosed as lumbar facet jointsyndrome theiragesranged from 30 to 50 years were referred from orthopedic and neurological clinicsanddivided into three experimental groups:(group A)received Mulligan mobilization and conventional treatment, (group B) received lumbartractionand conventional treatment,(group C)received Mulligan mobilization in combination with lumbar traction in addition toconventional treatment and control group (group D) received the conventional treatment only. All participants received 3 sessions per week for one month. The assessment was done before and after one month of treatment using visual analogue scale for pain, osweastry disability index for functional disability while facet joint tropism was assessed by using magnetic resonance image. Results: significant improvement inpain intensity and functional disability in the fourgroups post treatment compared with thatof pre-treatment with more significant improvement in the experimental groups (A,B,C) than the control group(D).while There wassignificant improvement of the group C compared with that of group A and B and There wassignificant improvement of the group A compared with that of group B. Regarding the facet joint tropism, there wassignificant improvement in the fourgroups post treatment compared with that of pre-treatment with more significant improvement in the experimental groups (A,B,C) than the control group(D) whileThere was no statistical significant difference in tropism between groups A ,B and C |
