Abstract Objective: The study aimedto compare between the effect of high intensity interval training and intermittent fasting onfunctional capacity and body among overweight subjects. Methods: Thirty subjects of both sexes with an age range from 25 to 35 years old selected from outpatient clinic, faculty of physical therapy, Horus University-Egypt in New Damietta city, assigned into two groups of equal numbers (group A and group B). GroupA:participated in high intensity interval training (HIIT)three times/ week for2 months, GroupB: followedintermittent fasting (IF) 16/8 protocolfor 2months. The subjects were assessed by Weight and height scaleto get body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (systole and diastole) by mercury sphygmomanometer and stethoscope, heart rate by pulse oximeter, waist hip circumference by tape measures and functional capacity estimation of VO₂ max by Bruce protocol. Results: The results showed in group (A) a decrease in body weight by an average of 5.38% and in group (B) 5.96%, a decrease in body mass index in group (A) by 2.63% and group (B) by an average of 5.39%, and a decrease in waist circumference in group (A) at a rate of 1.46% and group (B) at a rate of 5.53% and a decrease in the waist-hip ratio in group (A) at a rate of 0.5 and in group (B) at a rate of 2.22% and an increase in the maximum rate of oxygen consumption in group (A) by an average of 32.97% and group (B) at an average 27.86%. Comparing both groups after treatment revealed that there was no statistically significant difference in all variables measured between the two groups (P > 0.05). However, when comparing the mean value before/after treatment for both groups, there was a statistically significant improvement in all measured variables (P < 0.05), except (waist circumference and waist-hip ratio) that there was no significant improvement in group A |
