Abstract

This clinical study was conducted to evaluate factors that affect the perfusion to forehead flaps and the feasibility of pedicle division at 1 week. Materials and methods prospective and retrospective observational cross-sectional study of patients with nasal defects requiring paramedian forehead flap reconstruction between January 2010 and April 2019 was conducted after approval from the Stanford University institutional review board. Among the prospective subjects of the study, we evaluated those who agreed to be enrolled in investigating the feasibility of obtaining a flap takedown as early as one week “one-week flap takedown”. Results: Our findings suggest that ICG angiography is a reliable method to provide qualitative and quantitative data on neovascularization perfusion of flaps used in nasal reconstruction. Among factors studied, time between stages and cartilage graft use significantly affected perfusion measures. Additionally, the flap pedicle can be taken down can safely by 7 days postoperatively in well selected patients.
